Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Education Minister Ashish Sood, flagged off the Tiranga Cyclothon for girls from the Vidhan Sabha to Rajghat early Tuesday morning.

Calling the event “a new flight and a new chapter for the daughters of Delhi”, CM Gupta said the government is committed to ensuring a bright future for the city’s young women. “Ahead of Independence Day, I extend my best wishes to all these daughters who are contributing to the country’s progress,” she added.

The event came just days after the Delhi Assembly passed the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, aimed at ending arbitrary fee hikes in private schools. Speaking to the media after its passage, CM Gupta remarked, “The 52-year-long ‘vanvas’ of parents in Delhi has ended today. For the first time since 1973, a government in Delhi has acted transparently to give parents relief.”

Education Minister Ashish Sood, who introduced the Bill on Monday, stressed that the legislation seeks to curb the commercialisation of education and ensure it remains a means of learning and nation-building rather than profit-making. The law is expected to benefit lakhs of students and their families in the national capital.

The Monsoon session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly, which began on August 5, is scheduled to run until August 8, though it may be extended if required.
